The November 2024 update to the NZ Building Code now requires interconnected smoke alarms as the minimum fire safety standard for newly built homes and consented renovations. Both wireless and hard-wired interconnection methods are accepted, and alarms must be either 10-year long-life battery-operated or mains-powered. All products in our wireless range are fully compliant. For full details, visit our NZ Building Code page.
The 2901 RK Recess Kit is designed for use with the CAVIUS Mains Powered Photoelectric Smoke Alarm (product code 2203 CAVMP). It is not compatible with battery-operated standalone alarms.
The recess kit is used with the mains-powered alarm, which must be installed by a registered electrician. The kit itself is straightforward to work with, but because it’s connected to a hard-wired alarm, a licensed professional is required.
With the 2901 RK Recess Kit fitted, the alarm sits at a 22mm profile and 97mm diameter — significantly slimmer than a standard flush mount, which sits at a 38mm profile.
